Doubts, the major exhibition that the MOP Foundation is dedicating to Paolo Roversi, is open until 20 September 2026. The exhibition, which brings together iconic masterworks and previously unseen images, offers an intimate journey through his career whilst celebrating his decisive influence on the language of fashion photography.

Over four decades, Paolo Roversi has forged a photographic language that is entirely his own. He has an almost uncanny ability to extend the life of his images. As the critic Vince Aletti has said ‘many of Paolo’s best pictures appear to come together before our eyes… his work is so vibrant that it can’t be confined to the page or the wall’.
Roversi has chosen the title Doubts for his MOP Foundation exhibition because for him doubt is ‘the open door to creativity and imagination whereas certainty closes that door.’ Doubts brings together many of the characteristic elements of Paolo’s approach including his abiding fascination with the experimental possibilities of Polaroid.
With Doubts, the MOP Centre’s building has been transformed into a network of interconnected sections, each expressing a different aspect of Roversi’s aesthetic: Theatre, Appearances, Shadows, Doubts, People, Presence, Grace, Beauty and Fading.

Taken together, they illustrate the dizzying breadth of Roversi’s technical mastery as well as the singularity of his vision and his almost religious conviction that beauty is to be found in silence, in the shadows and the spaces between things.

GALLERIA PAOLO ROVERSI

MAR, Ravenna Art Museum, Italy

25.05.2026 - Permanent

Curator: Chiara Bardelli Nonino
Scénography: Studio Ania Martchenko
Graphic design: M/M Paris
Lighting design : Silverstrin & associates

The Paolo Roversi Gallery is a permanent space dedicated to the Ravenna-born photographer and his distinctive vision of contemporary fashion and portrait photography.

Inspired by Roversi’s studio, the gallery creates an immersive environment of light, shadow and material, bringing together iconic portraits, fashion photography and still lifes. His analogue images and long exposures emerge from darkness and dissolve into light, creating a suspended, timeless atmosphere.
The project draws on Ravenna’s Byzantine mosaics, where light becomes a means of constructing and transforming the image. The gallery translates this poetic language into a theatrical spatial experience, guiding visitors through subtle shifts of light, perception and time.

Curator: Alexandre Samson

From 1 October 2025 to 1 February 2026, the exhibition Martin Margiela 1989–2009. The Women’s Collections will be presented at OōEli Space (Building 6) in Hangzhou. It is the first major retrospective dedicated to Martin Margiela ever shown in Asia.
Organised by BY ART MATTERS Museum and B1OCK in collaboration with the Palais Galliera – Fashion Museum of Paris, Paris Musées, the exhibition brings together more than 130 silhouettes, fashion archives, runway videos, and several specially conceived installations.

Covering two decades of creation, from Spring–Summer 1989 to Spring–Summer 2009, the exhibition highlights the work of a designer who challenged both the structure of garments and the conventions of the fashion system. It offers a rare and in-depth perspective on the unique and deliberately enigmatic influence of Martin Margiela on contemporary fashion.

Alongside the main exhibition, B1OCK presents a dedicated section on its first floor showcasing archival pieces from Chinese collectors and admirers of Margiela’s work. Gathered through an open call, these contributions reflect the commitment, discernment, and personal vision of a passionate community.
This parallel presentation offers an intimate insight into the ways Margiela’s creations have been preserved, cherished, and reinterpreted in China.

CATWALK:
The Art of the Fashion Show

VITRA Design Museum
Weil-am-Rhein, Germany

18.10.2025-15.02.2025

Curators: Jochen Eisenbrand, Katharina Krawczuk, Kirsty Hassard, Svetlana Panova
Scénography: Ania Martchenko
Graphic design: Haller&Brun

For Catwalk, the exhibition scenography uses the historical timeline of the fashion show as a spatial and conceptual tool. Rather than illustrating history chronologically, the project adopts the design principles of the catwalk itself — borrowing its languages, constraints, and production logics to generate a sequence of distinct yet connected environments.

Each room reconstructs a specific mode of presentation, alternating between contextual reconstructions, abstract forms, trompe-oeils and ready-made elements. Moving through the exhibition, visitors encounter a succession of spatial experiences that echo the changing conditions of fashion shows: intimate salons, experimental settings, media-driven spectacles, and large-scale productions, using equipment and atmospheres appropriate to each period.
The scenography uses recycled materials from runway sets provided by Spazio Meta / Milano to reveal the material afterlife of the fashion show and question its cycles of overproduction.
Throughout the exhibition, the scenography reveals not only garments, but the technical, spatial and cultural mechanisms that shape the fashion show as a performative system.

The exhibition Paolo Roversi at the Palais Galliera showcases 50 years of photography, revealing how the artist has embraced fashion to create a unique body of work. This is the first monograph dedicated to the photographer in Paris.

Based on the artist’s working method, his vision was transposed into the scenography installed at the Palais Galliera to recreate the atmosphere of Paolo Roversi’s studio while respecting and enhancing the venue.
To achieve coherence with the work presented, I focused on the concept of "off-screen," using trompe-l’œil physical installations such as a false window and a false door, replicating recognizable architectural elements of the Palais while altering the mental geography of the space.
On a technical level, the challenges involved the preservation of photographic works such as Polaroids, requiring appropriate lighting, as well as the design of wall structures ensuring four-point hanging on stretched surfaces, along with sealed display cases and frames.
From an environmental perspective, the choice of construction techniques based on stretched frames allowed for an increased display area without requiring large amounts of wood panels. Naturally, this approach demanded meticulous attention and precision during the design phase to ensure the mandatory four-point hanging.
Additionally, the reuse of elements from previous exhibitions (including their storage) and collaboration with the scenographer of the subsequent exhibition to recover materials were integral to the eco-design ethics of this project.

For this exhibition, the goal was to combine a chronological and thematic approach to the layout, with the intention of immersing the public in the artist’s work and legacy while demonstrating his influence on contemporary Belgian fashion.

The exhibition featured photographs, garments from the first half of the 20th century and contemporary designers, objects, sculptures, as well as videos and contemporary art pieces.

The aesthetic distinctiveness of this exhibition lay in the use of trompe-l’œil techniques that mimicked the presence of light and shadows. These were created using enlarged photographs of shadows produced with models, aligning with the aesthetics and working methods of Man Ray and his surrealist vision.
Priority was given to managing sightlines and vistas, working on perspectives in the layout to break the monotony of the long, narrow hall.
Gently curved walls were proposed, both for their spatial qualities and as a structural solution providing self-support while reducing the amount of material required.
This exhibition was realized using 80% recycled materials from the previous exhibition, including existing plinths and platforms, wooden panels, and glass panels.

MARTIN MARGIELA in LMOA

Lotte Museum of Art / Seoul, Corée

12/2022 - 03/2023

DA: Martin MargielaExhibition Design: Ania Martchenko

The LOTTE Museum of Art presents Martin Margiela at LOTTE Museum of Art, a deep dive into the groundbreaking visual art of Martin Margiela (b. 1957), an artist known for challenging conventions since the 1980s.

Featuring over 50 works, the exhibition explores Margiela’s reflections on art, material, the body, gender, time, and audience interaction. Expanding beyond his Maison Martin Margiela days, the show transforms his experimental runway concepts into boundary-pushing visual art. The museum space becomes a platform for rethinking formats, blending and transforming mediums, and fostering alternative perspectives.

The exhibition incorporates trompe l'œil illusions, a reimagined layout, and multi-medium works like Deodorant (2022), Top Coat (2011), and Dust Cover (2021), which probe beauty, absence, and traces of existence. Vertical blinds create a labyrinthine flow, encouraging focus and reflection.

Margiela’s work, though echoing his fashion legacy, stands as a distinct visual culture, redefining artistic conventions.
